Those quibbles aside, this is a fine product. If you often forget to plug your digital camera into your computer to download photos, the Eye-Fi is for you.
My family spent Saturday afternoon at a neighborhood Halloween party and parade . There was face painting, games to play, cupcakes to eat, playground equipment to climb and after all that, a parade with literally hundreds of kids in costumes walking through the neighborhood to trick or treat.

Digital Cameras a Card Away
img {border : none}
The first time I went to use the wireless photo card after installing the Eye-Fi software on an Apple iBook-it works on Macs and PCs-my home wireless network did not connect to the Internet. I got it working again after a reset but this was annoying. (I was testing a pre-release model and the company said my card may have a few bugs.)
But it was a tiring day for parents, who then had to settle the kids down after all that excitement and candy. With dinner, baths and the other various needs of small children, who has the time to upload photos? It easy to forget your camera is filled with great memories.
A memory card that wirelessly sends photos from a digital camera to a computer or an online photo service will be introduced Tuesday by a California start-up.

Is this a big deal ? Consider how I used the card.
The card works with any new or existing digital camera that has an SD memory slot, turning more than 60 percent of cameras already in consumers hands into a Wi-Fi enabled device. Hence , there is no need to buy a new camera simply because it has Wi-Fi, as some new models offer.

Also, with Macs, the photos are not automatically sent into Apple iPhoto software. I had to drag and drop images from a special folder into iPhoto, a minor nuisance. Finally, the card drained the camera battery like canon NB-1L battery, canon NB-2L battery, canon BP-511 battery, canon NB-5L battery, canon NB-4L battery, canon NB-5H battery, panasonic VW-VBD1E Battery, panasonic VW- VBD1 Battery, Panasonic CGA-S002 Battery, HITACHI DZ-HS300E Battery, Olympus FE-230 Battery, canon MV930 Battery faster than a normal SD card would. That a common problem with Wi-Fi products, however, as the chips used to send a wireless signal typically require more power.

I tested the card using a Fuji FinePix Z10 camera. The slim 7.2-megapixel point-and-shoot model generally takes fine images and the quality of the shots with the Eye-Fi card remained high.

Welcome to a Digital Camera Battery specialist
(Note: If my computer was on when I turned the camera on , the photos would have went there and to Shutterfly. Instead, they went to the online service first and then downloaded back to my computer when it was turned on.)

All you need for Eye-Fi to work is a home Wi-Fi network and a digital camera with an SD slot. The Eye-Fi card slips into a camera memory slot like any other SD card. The card is packaged with a USB device that includes software to configure the card with your home wireless network.

Why? Because all you need to do is turn the camera on when you come home after a day of picture taking and your photos are automatically uploaded. Don bother with cables that plug into a computer.

This process took about 10 minutes and the only challenge was remembering a few passwords.
Initially, the card will be sold only online at retailers such as Amazon.com, Buy.com and Walmart.com. It is priced at $ 99 and comes with 2 gigabytes of storage. That easily twice the price of any similar-sized memory card, but the convenience factor is huge. < br /> Rarely have I been so anxious to try a new product, as this Wi-Fi-enabled SD card promises to solve the vexing problem of getting photos off your camera and onto your computer.

No worry. I simply turned the camera on and the photos automatically were sent to Shutterfly.com, one of about a dozen photo services that have partnered with Eye-Fi. Later in the evening, when I turned on my Apple laptop, the photos were downloaded from Shutterfly to my computer.
There are currently no plans to offer a bigger memory card or in sizes other than SD, said Jef Holove, Eye-Fi CEO. < br />. moreArticles {margin-top: 50px; font-size: 14px;}
There were some problems, however.

Instead , this memory card from Eye-Fi Inc. takes the photos off your existing camera _ no strings attached.
In tests over the weekend, the 2-gigabyte memory card worked as advertised. There were a few hiccups-such as temporarily disabling my home Wi-Fi network-but I never once needed to plug the camera into the computer to download the photos. All I did was turn the camera on and off the photos went.
From there, it a matter of pushing the order button from the online photo service or using the home printer to make a new print.
As a photo opportunity, what more could one ask for?
